Quezon City, Philippines – The government has allocated P89.1 million for the construction of the new and improved Kamuning footbridge and EDSA Busway station, which is expected to be completed by December of this year. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the project will provide a safer and more convenient commuting experience for the public.
A key feature of the new infrastructure is its direct link to the MRT-3 GMA-Kamuning station, which will allow for a seamless intermodal change for passengers. This will eliminate the need for commuters to exit one station and walk a significant distance to enter the other.
The project, which began construction on Thursday, August 14, 2025, will feature a new covered footbridge that will connect the Kamuning Busway Station to both the northbound and southbound sides of EDSA. For better accessibility, the new footbridge will be equipped with covered stairways, two elevators, and a wheelchair lifter.
In addition to the new footbridge, the Kamuning Busway Station will also undergo renovations. Existing waiting sheds and railings will be replaced, and tactile paving surfaces will be installed to assist the visually impaired. The station’s waiting sheds, lighting, and digital clocks will also be improved.
The project aims to provide a safer and more convenient commuting experience for the public, especially for the elderly, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women. Dizon emphasized that the new, lower, and more accessible footbridge is a direct response to the public’s clamor to replace the old, steep “Mt. Kamuning” footbridge.
