A NAIA Makeover? 8 Things to Know About the New Plans for NAIA

Metro Manila, Philippines – As the main gateway to the Philippines, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is set to undergo a significant makeover. The new plans aim to address long-standing issues and enhance the overall travel experience. Here are eight key points you need to know about the upcoming changes. 

The planned renovation of NAIA is driven by persistent issues such as overcrowding, outdated facilities, and inefficiencies in operations. These challenges have long affected passenger satisfaction and airport rankings, globally. The makeover is expected to modernize the airport, making it more competitive and accommodating for increasing passenger traffic.

1. Terminal 1 And 2 Will Be Expanded

The north wing of Terminal 2 will be expanded towards the Philippine Village Hotel, enhancing the terminal’s capacity and services. Similarly, Terminal 2’s south wing will be extended towards Terminal 1, facilitating better connectivity and passenger flow between the terminals. These expansions aim to accommodate increasing passenger traffic and improve overall airport efficiency.

2. Terminal 3’s North Wing Will Be Expanded

Terminal 3’s North Wing will undergo an expansion, which will significantly increase passenger capacity. The current capacity of 14 million passengers will be elevated to 25 million. This expansion aims to accommodate growing travel demands and enhance overall airport efficiency.

3. The Aircraft Parking Will Increase 

The number of aircraft parking bays will increase from 61 to 104. This expansion aims to accommodate more flights, reducing congestion and delays. It will significantly enhance the airport’s operational capacity and efficiency.

4. Terminal 3 Will Have Direct Access To The Metro Manila Subway

Terminal 3 will feature direct access to the Metro Manila Subway, enhancing connectivity and convenience for travelers. This new development aims to streamline transportation within the city, making it easier to reach and navigate the airport. Passengers will benefit from seamless integration between the subway and the terminal, improving overall travel efficiency.

5. The International Cargo Complex And Fuel Farm Will Be Relocated

The International Cargo Complex and Fuel Farm will be relocated to give way to the expansion of Terminals 1 and 2. This move aims to optimize operational efficiency and accommodate future growth. The relocation is expected to enhance overall logistics and infrastructure planning.

6. A Multi-Level Carpark 

The expansive carpark will span over 62,000 square meters and provide ample parking space for thousands of vehicles. It will have a multi-level design that ensures efficient use of space, accommodating a high volume of cars in a compact footprint. The carpark will also be equipped with modern facilities to enhance user convenience and security.

7. A New Terminal 5 

Currently without an official name, the proposed Terminal 5 is set to transform the airport experience with modern design and advanced facilities. Adding a new terminal will enhance passenger comfort and streamline operations, featuring state-of-the-art technology and amenities. 

8. A State-Of-The-Art Headhouse Building

A state-of-the-art headhouse building spanning 63,000 square meters is designed to meet the highest standards of efficiency and functionality.
