DPWH Completes ₱125 Million Worth of Projects in Nueva Vizcaya and Oriental Mindoro

MANILA – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed a series of impactful infrastructure projects totaling ₱125.5 million in Nueva Vizcaya and Oriental Mindoro. These developments promise to enhance local communities’ resilience, safety, and economic growth.

 

Flood Control Projects in Nueva Vizcaya

The DPWH’s efforts in Nueva Vizcaya have focused on addressing long-standing flood issues that have significantly affected local agriculture and infrastructure.

 

Kinacao Section of Magat River

  • Project Description: 320 linear meters of slope protection were constructed using steel sheet piles and gabion spur dikes.
  • Cost: ₱67.8 million
  • Purpose: To mitigate severe flooding affecting agriculture and infrastructure in the region.
  • Beneficiaries: The enhanced flood control will benefit communities in Bagabag and Quezon towns, where severe flooding has historically disrupted lives and livelihoods.

 

Nalubbunan Flood Control Project

  • Project Description: This initiative included the construction of a 504 linear meter rubble concrete revetment with anchorage, embankment, mattresses, gabions, and spur dikes.
  • Cost: ₱47.9 million
  • Purpose: To protect agricultural lands, particularly rice, corn, and vegetables, from flood risks.
  • Impact: This project will safeguard farming activities in a region where such protections are critical for maintaining local food supplies and supporting the economy.

 

Road Projects in Oriental Mindoro

In Oriental Mindoro, the DPWH has focused on upgrading essential road infrastructure to boost connectivity and economic activity.

 

Naujan

  • Project Description: This project involved concreting a 415-meter road in Sitio II, Barangay Aurora.
  • Cost: ₱4.94 million
  • Features: The road includes shoulders and slope protection to enhance durability and safety.
  • Purpose: To improve road safety, reduce accidents, and facilitate better access to goods and services.
  • Impact: The improved road conditions will enhance connectivity and reduce transportation risks, benefiting residents and local businesses.

 

Bongabong

  • Project Description: This project involved constructing a two-lane, 446-meter access road from Barangay Anilao to Barangay Masaguisi.
  • Cost: ₱4.86 million
  • Features: The road includes retaining walls and shoulders for safety.
  • Purpose: To boost agricultural productivity and improve mobility.
  • Impact: This road enhancement will support economic growth and product trading by improving access and reducing travel difficulties.

 

DPWH Mindoro District Engineer Salvador Abad highlighted that these road projects are crucial for supporting regional economic development and agricultural progress.

 

“The completion of these two road projects in the essential areas of Naujan and Bongabong contributes to fortifying economic growth and agricultural productivity in the region, thus improving the quality of life in Oriental Mindoro,” Abad said in a statement released by PNA.

 

Funding and Implementation

The Regular Infrastructure Program for Fiscal Year 2023 funded all these projects, which the DPWH’s Nueva Vizcaya 1st District Engineering Office and the Mindoro District Office managed.

 

Regional Growth Cagayan Valley and Mimaropa

The completion of these infrastructure projects represents a significant boost for both Nueva Vizcaya and Oriental Mindoro.
