NEGROS ISLAND— Kanlaon Volcano had another eruption early this morning, May 13, 2025, at 2:55 AM. The five-minute eruption sent a thick gray ash plume about 4.5 kilometers high and was heard in nearby areas like Brgy. Pula in Canlaon City and La Castellana, Negros Occidental. Glowing pyroclastic flows—fast-moving mixtures of hot gas and volcanic materials—rolled down the southern slopes up to 2 kilometers, and burning rocks were seen near the summit. Ashfall was reported in parts of La Carlota City, Bago City, and La Castellana.
PHIVOLCS is keeping Alert Level 3, meaning the volcano is showing signs of magmatic unrest and more explosions could happen. People within a 6-kilometer danger zone must remain evacuated due to risks of ashfall, pyroclastic flows, lava, and falling rocks. Residents affected by ashfall are advised to wear masks or damp cloths, especially those with health conditions, the elderly, pregnant women, and children.
Authorities are also warned about possible mudflows (lahars) during heavy rain. Planes are advised not to fly near the volcano due to the danger of ash. PHIVOLCS continues to monitor Kanlaon closely and will release updates as needed.
