DPWH officially opened the C-5 Quirino Flyover Extension in Las Piñas City on Wednesday, April 24. The inauguration ceremony was attended by DPWH NCR Assistant Regional Director Joel F. Limpengco and DPWH Las Piñas-Muntinlupa District Engineer Isabelo C. Baleros, as well as a couple of senators.

According to a report by DPWH Assistant Secretary Nerie D. Bueno and DPWH National Capital Region Director Loreta M. Malaluan to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, the newly inaugurated flyover will significantly alleviate traffic congestion and enhance the commuting experience for residents and motorists alike.

Spanning 680 meters in length, the flyover will serve as a vital link between Circumferential Road 5 (C-5) and Quirino Highway, functioning as a quick passage for vehicles that navigate through the streets of Las Piñas City. The flyover consists of a two-lane flyover with a 390-meter bridge and a 290-meter bridge approach. The construction began in 2020.

The C-5-Quirino Flyover extension is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving transportation networks across the country. With a total cost of P300.39 million, the project is a significant investment by the government meant to enhance connectivity and address the challenges of urban traffic in the country.

The newest flyover does not only benefit motorists who will travel from Zapote in Las Piñas City and Sucat in Paranaque City, but also provides smoother access to Coastal Road by facilitating easier movement to areas in the Cavite Province.

Moreover, the project extends far beyond providing a convenient route for commuters. The C-5-Quirino Flyover Extension also protects a drainage system, as well as road lighting facilities, and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings installed to enhance the safety and well-being of Filipino motorists.

Building Better Roads

The completion of the C-5-Quirino Flyover extension underscores the government’s broader commitment to infrastructure development and socio-economic progress. With the Department of Budget and Management allocating P882.2 billion to DPWH for various initiatives for the year 2024, the nation is poised for substantial growth and enhancement of its transportation infrastructure.

Budget Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman highlighted the significance of DPWH’s proposed budget in advancing the Marcos administration’s 8-Point Socioeconomic Agenda. The government aims to foster inclusive growth and development across the nation by creating job opportunities and reducing transportation costs through initiatives like the Build Better More Program.

“As highlighted by the President during his second State of the Nation Address (SONA), infrastructure development is one of the key drivers of our continuing economic growth,”  Pangandaman said. “As such, we will sustain this momentum through the Build Better More Program.”

As Las Piñas City continues to evolve and expand, the inauguration of the C-5-Quirino Flyover extension is a pivotal moment in the country’s journey toward sustainable urban development. This newest addition to the city’s infrastructure is poised to make a lasting impact on the lives of its residents and visitors alike with improved connectivity, enhanced safety measures, and a renewed focus on socio-economic progress.
