Leighton Asia, chosen to help construct the P7.89-billion project, has finished the construction of the 5-km viaduct carrying the North Luzon Expressway over the Candaba swamp in Pampanga.

The project initially faced time constraints due to the various strong typhoons that passed through the country. Despite this, the project was finished and is set to open this November just before the December traffic rush sets in.

The viaduct aims to alleviate traffic congestion during the holiday rush, which occurs annually in the months of November and December. According to the NLEX website, NLEX-SCTEX accommodates about 320,000 per day, greatly increasing a day or two before and after a major holiday like Christmas and the New Year.

This project will ease travel connecting Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Northern Luzon and will lessen congestion in the area. Concluding that this project will also encourage tourism and commerce in the connected communities.
