MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) officially reopened its doors to the public on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, after undergoing a comprehensive six-month renovation project. The restoration and modernization effort prepares the architectural landmark for its 50th anniversary and its role as the primary venue for the Philippines’ hosting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in 2026.
The extensive renovation focused on blending the iconic brutalist design of National Artist for Architecture Leandro V. Locsin with modern technological advancements. Key upgrades to the facility include the installation of state-of-the-art audio-visual systems, energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the complex, and enhanced security features. The entire venue is now equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi to meet the demands of modern international conferences and events.
Renovation work was carried out in the Delegation Building, the Plenary and Reception Halls, and the Secretariat Building. The project also included the restoration of the courtyard to its original 1976 design, featuring revived pebble wash flooring, restored ponds, improved landscaping, and the addition of new infinity waterfalls and a 30-speaker audio system. Inside, the lobby’s marble tiles were repaired, the ceiling was repainted, and concrete walls underwent laser cleaning. Original furniture pieces dating back to 1976 have also been meticulously restored.
A significant addition to the PICC is a newly curated art collection from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, featuring works by Filipino masters. This initiative aims to further solidify the PICC’s status not only as a premier events venue but also as a repository of Philippine art and culture.
First opened in 1976, the PICC is recognized as Asia’s first international convention center and is officially designated as a National Cultural Treasure. Over the past five decades, it has hosted numerous historical events, including the 1994 Miss Universe pageant and the 2017 ASEAN Summit.
The PICC is now accepting bookings for a wide range of events, from global conferences and conventions to personal milestones and graduation ceremonies, starting this October.
