DOTr Will Spend Php1.14B for Regional Airport Upgrades

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has set aside a budget of Php1.14 billion according to the bidding documents they released for the upgrades of airports in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Eastern Samar and Cotabato. Below is the breakdown of the allocation:

  • Php596.42 million for the Laoag International Airport Development Project composed of civil works to enhance the runway in the gateway.
  • Php72.42 million for the asphalt overlay of the runway in Vigan Airport.
  • Php194 million mainly for the construction of a turning pad at the Borongan Airport in Samar.
  • Php281.19 million for the rehabilitation and upgrade of the runway at the Central Mindanao Airport or M’lang Airport.

The pre-bid conference for these contracts will be on June 27 and the DOTr will be giving the following deadlines for the winning bidders:

  • 360 days for Laoag International Airport, 
  • 150 days for Vigan Airport,
  • 300 days for Borongan Airport
  • 270 days for M’lang Airport

 

In addition, DOTr is also considering public-private partnership (PPP) arrangements for the upgrade of airports located in the following destinations: Bacolod, Bohol, Davao, Iloilo, Kalibo, Puerto Princesa and Siargao.

The biggest PPP arrangement to date is for the Ninoy Aquino international airport by the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. led by Ramon Ang’s San Miguel Corp. at Php170.6 billion.
