Construction of New Scenic Tourism Road Completed in Bulan, Sorsogon

Bulan, Sorsogon – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed a new scenic tourism road in Bulan, Sorsogon. This project marks a significant milestone for the region, enhancing access to the breathtaking tourist destinations in southern Sorsogon.

The newly completed road spans a 3.95-kilometer section of the ongoing Bulan-Matnog-Sta. Magdalena-Bulusan access road. Designed to provide fast, convenient, affordable, and scenic routes, the project aims to boost local tourism by making it easier for visitors to explore the natural beauty of the area.

DPWH Regional Office 5 Director Virgilio C. Eduarte reported the successful completion of the two road projects in Bulan to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan. These projects are integral components of the larger Bulan-Matnog-Sta. Magdalena-Bulusan Road initiative, which seeks to improve transportation infrastructure in the region.

Newest Scenic Tourism Road Completed

The completed sections include a 1.8-kilometer stretch and a 2.15-kilometer road connecting Barangay Butag and Barangay Utayi. These roads traverse diverse terrains, including farmlands and coastal areas, offering travelers picturesque views of the countryside and seascape. The construction of these sections involved meticulous planning and execution to ensure durability and safety.

Each road section features two lanes, road shoulders, street lights, and thermoplastic pavement markings for enhanced visibility. Safety is a top priority, with the inclusion of warning signs, metal guardrails, and chevron signs to alert drivers of sharp curves and other potential hazards. These measures aim to reduce accidents and provide a secure travel experience for all road users.

Southern Sorsogon boasts a variety of attractions that draw tourists from near and far. Notable sites include the Bulusan Volcano National Park, known for its lush forests and serene lake, and the “Pink” Subic Beach and Juag Lagoon Marine Sanctuary in Matnog, famous for their unique pink sand and rich marine life. Sta. Magdalena offers pristine white sand beaches, perfect for a relaxing getaway, while Bulan is home to a historic World War II Japanese Tunnel, providing a glimpse into the area’s wartime history.

The Bulan-Matnog-Sta. Magdalena-Bulusan Road is expected to become a vital alternative route for tourists, offering a faster and more scenic option compared to existing roads. The route promises to showcase the stunning landscapes of southern Sorsogon, making the journey as enjoyable as the destinations themselves.
