Metro Manila – The Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) will experience its final scheduled weekend suspension of operations from August 31 to September 1, as part of preparations for the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project. The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) announced that this suspension is crucial for accelerating construction and safety checks necessary for the extension, which aims to enhance Metro Manila’s public transportation system.

Purpose of Suspension

These weekend breaks are designed to facilitate the fast-tracking of Phase 1 of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension, which will introduce five new stations in Parañaque City. Set to open by the end of 2024, the extension will significantly cut travel time and benefit up to 600,000 passengers daily.

The affected weekends include August 17-18, August 24-25, and the final break on August 31 to September 1. The suspension will impact the line segment from the Fernando Poe Jr. station (formerly Roosevelt) to Baclaran, affecting thousands of daily commuters.

Alternative Transport Options

To avoid inconvenience, LRMC has arranged alternative transportation:

  • Buses: Special routes from Malanday to Mall of Asia (MOA).
  • EDSA Carousel: Connections between Monumento and PITX, with additional stops.
  • UV Express: Routes from SM Fairview to Buendia.
  • Jeepneys/Modern Jeepneys: Various routes, including from MCU to Divisoria and Cubao to Vito Cruz.

Commuters are advised to plan ahead, utilize alternative transport, and check real-time traffic updates to avoid delays. Patience is encouraged, as these temporary inconveniences will pave the way for long-term improvements to the city’s transport infrastructure.

LRT-1 Upgrade

This final weekend suspension marks a crucial step towards the completion of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension. Commuters are encouraged to stay informed through official LRMC channels and share the advisory to minimize disruption.
