The House of Representatives has approved the proposed P6.352 trillion national budget for 2025, with an overwhelming vote of 285 in favor, three opposed, and no abstentions. The swift approval of House Bill 10800, known as the General Appropriations Bill (GAB), came after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. certified the measure as urgent. This expedited the passage of the budget, guaranteeing the uninterrupted operation of critical government functions and the allocation of funds for crucial projects.

House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez commended the legislative body’s efficiency and dedication to national interests, particularly in scrutinizing the budget allocations. He commended the lawmakers for their thorough review of the budget over the course of eight session days, emphasizing that they will allocate every centavo to urgent priorities and impactful government programs.

Romualdez also highlighted that the swift approval of the budget is a testament to their commitment to national prosperity. “We are now prepared to finance and implement future initiatives and flagship projects. This budget ensures that Filipinos will directly experience the benefits of our collective efforts,” he said.

The 2025 national budget represents 22% of the country’s GDP and marks a 10.1% increase from the previous year’s P5.768 trillion allocation. The budget will support various government departments, agencies, and corporations, driving growth and development.

President Marcos, in his letter to both Romualdez and Senate President Francis Escudero, emphasized the need for the budget’s prompt enactment. He pointed to the importance of ensuring that the government can respond to emerging challenges and continue delivering essential services.

Rep. Elizaldy Co. and Vice Chairperson Stella Luz Quimbo chaired a small committee during the approval process, which focused on resolving individual amendments. With the budget now on the path to final approval, the national government is poised to move forward with its strategic goals for the country’s growth and prosperity.
