DAVAO CITY— The P3.13 billion Bucana Bridge project, a crucial 1.34-kilometer infrastructure development in Davao City, is progressing ahead of schedule and is anticipated to be completed in the third quarter of 2025. This shortened timeframe and 73% completion rate indicate the project’s efficient execution and promise earlier relief for commuters and improved connectivity for the region according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The bridge, a four-lane, six-span extradosed bridge with advanced structural features, is a significant undertaking for Davao City. In order to complement the Davao City Coastal Road, it was developed to connect its pieces separated by the river. It would improve traffic flow in Davao City’s coastal areas by accommodating up to 35,000 vehicles daily and strengthening transportation infrastructure. Its strategic position should improve traffic flow and commutes for residents.

Following the July 1, 2023, opening of the Bago Aplaya-Tulip Drive portion of the coastal road, the Bucana Bridge is expected to be finished in Q3 2025, thereby connecting the coastal road to areas as far as R. Castillo.

The early delivery of the Bucana Bridge, a project funded by the initiatives of the Philippine and Chinese government under China Aid Grant will bring tangible benefits to the community, improving accessibility and supporting economic growth in the region.
