The Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) Governor’s Drive Interchange is progressing steadily, with construction now approaching 40% completion. This 8.64-kilometer segment is slated to open in the second half of 2025, aiming to enhance connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion between Cavite and Laguna provinces.
Once operational, the interchange will link the Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to Governor’s Drive in General Trias, Cavite. This connection is expected to provide a more efficient route for motorists, reducing reliance on heavily trafficked roads such as Aguinaldo Highway and Governor’s Drive.
MPCALA Holdings, Inc., a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) and the concessionaire for CALAX, has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the entire expressway by 2025.
Officer-in-Charge Elnora D. Rumawak stated, “We are committed to completing the entire stretch of CALAX by 2025. Its full opening will not only ease traffic and improve connectivity but also support economic growth by enhancing access to key areas in Cavite and Laguna.”
In addition to the Governor’s Drive Interchange, construction is ongoing for other sections of CALAX. The Kawit Interchange (Subsection 1) has reached over 31% completion, while the Open Canal Interchange (Subsection 2) stands at approximately 21.9%. These developments are integral to the expressway’s goal of providing seamless travel from Mamplasan Rotunda in Laguna to Kawit in Cavite.
Upon full completion, the 45-kilometer CALAX will feature eight interchanges: Laguna Technopark, Laguna Boulevard, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road, Silang East, Silang (Aguinaldo), Governor’s Drive, Open Canal, and Kawit. The expressway is designed to accommodate up to 95,000 vehicles daily, significantly improving travel times and bolstering economic activity in the region.
The integration of CALAX with major expressways, including the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), will offer motorists a more efficient route between Cavite, Laguna, and Metro Manila. This enhanced connectivity is anticipated to stimulate local economies by improving access to key areas and facilitating smoother transportation of goods and services.
As the project progresses, residents and businesses in the affected areas can look forward to the benefits of reduced travel times, decreased traffic congestion, and improved regional connectivity. The completion of the CALAX Governor’s Drive Interchange represents a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to modernize the Philippines’ infrastructure and support economic growth.
