The Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary, Vince Dizon, confirms that the EDSA Greenway Project will be constructed by the end of the year or early next year and is confident it will be finished by 2028.
The EDSA Greenways project seeks to provide safer and more efficient walkways for pedestrians by constructing elevated walkways and connecting transport hubs for the convenience of commuters.
“The idea of this ADB project is to elevate the walkways so there’s free-flowing movement on EDSA,” says Dizon during his interview on Bilyonaryo News Channel’s “On Point” with Pinky Webb.
The project aims to enhance the pedestrian experience in four locations: Balintawak, Cubao, Guadalupe, and Taft mass transit stations. It plans to construct or upgrade 5 kilometers of covered elevated pathways.
The project is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He stated that the construction requires approximately 70 billion pesos.
He added that building this project is not too difficult, given that the walkways are elevated, minimizing right-of-way concerns.
The project is expected to be done in 2028, after the president’s term.
