MARILAO, Bulacan – A truck accident at the Marilao Interchange along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, resulted in one fatality and six injuries. The incident occurred when a trailer truck’s container van struck a beam of the Marilao Bridge, causing it to fall and hit a passing AUV.

According to authorities, both the trailer truck and the AUV were traveling northbound when the truck, reportedly exceeding the bridge’s vertical clearance, collided with the overhead structure. The impact caused a beam to detach and directly strike the rear portion of the AUV.

A 54-year-old male passenger in the AUV, who was part of a family trip to Baguio, tragically died due to the impact. The other five occupants of the AUV sustained injuries, along with the driver of the truck.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with the truck’s cargo section reportedly detaching. The 31-year-old truck driver, who claimed not to have noticed the height of his vehicle or the bridge’s clearance, is now facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property. Inquest proceedings are underway.

This unfortunate event echoes a similar incident in March, where another truck struck the same Marilao Interchange Bridge, causing significant traffic disruption and requiring extensive repairs. NLEX officials reiterated their strict enforcement of the 4.27-meter maximum height regulation for trucks to prevent such occurrences.
