Metro Manila’s Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) experienced significant operational delays on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, due to a power failure and technical issues. This disruption occurred on the same day the railway was scheduled to offer free rides to seafarers in celebration of the Day of the Filipino Seafarer.
The power issue began around 3:30 a.m. when Trainset 9 encountered a power supply problem. Further investigation revealed technical issues with Power Transformers No. 6 and No. 5 at Santolan and Anonas stations, respectively. As a result, LRT-2 failed to commence its scheduled 5 a.m. operations, with partial service from Recto Station to Araneta Center-Cubao Station and back only beginning at 6 a.m. Service between Cubao and Antipolo remained suspended as repairs were underway. The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) apologized for the inconvenience and advised commuters to monitor their social media for updates.
Despite the operational challenges, LRT-2, along with Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), proceeded with its offer of free rides for seafarers. On LRT-2, seafarers could avail themselves of free trips from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The MRT-3 offered free rides from 5:30 a.m. until the end of its operations. To avail of the complimentary service, seafarers were required to present their Seafarer’s Record Book (SRB), Seafarer’s Identity Document (SID), or Seafarer’s Identification Booklet (SIB).
