PANTONE’s Color of the Year is a specially formulated color swatch produced by American company PANTONE LLC, also known as PANTONE. While people from all over the world anticipate the annual reveal of the next PANTONE Color of the Year on social media, it is important to note the significant influence that the chosen color has on not just cultural trends, but also design. The PANTONE Color of the Year is always anticipated with excitement and this year, the American Company has finally announced the color that will help shape the year 2024.

“Peach Fuzz” or “PANTONE 13-1023” was announced as PANTONE’s 2024 Color of the Year on the second week of December 2023. PANTONE’s release of a specific color swatch assigned for the year began in 1999 and the tradition continues to the year 2024, 25 years later. This year, the company released a unique color described as “soft and inviting.” In this article, we will take a look at PANTONE’s 2024 Color of the Year and discuss how it influences the design industry.

PANTONE’s 13-1023

PANTONE’s Color of the Year tradition began in 1999 with an aim of providing a statement or encapsulate the most relevant shared human experience of the year. Another purpose of the annually announced Color of the Year is to ignite conversations between designers, color enthusiasts, and the public about the relationship between human experience, emotions, and colors. In 1999, PANTONE announced Cerulean Blue, or “PANTONE 15-4020” as the Color of the Year. This year, the tradition continues after the company announced Peach Fuzz or PANTONE 13-1023 as the 2024 Color of the Year.

Apart from being described as “soft and inviting,” PANTONE 13-1023 is also meant to evoke the feelings of serene sensibility that can bring forth some comfort and peace that will people can derive comfort from. According to Laurie Pressman, the Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, the color is meant to evoke necessary peace amidst the chaos that people can truly appreciate this year.

“With this year’s Pantone Color of the Year 2024, we see an increased focus on community and people across the world reframing how they want to live and evaluating what is important – that being the comfort of being close to those we love. The color is one whose warm and welcoming embrace conveys a message of compassion and whose cozy sensibility brings people together and enriches the soul.” Pressman said

PANTONE and Design

While PANTONE’s original concept was to spark a discussion about colors between design enthusiasts and professionals, its influence on modern design is clear. In the construction industry, PANTONE’s Color of the Year is often showcased in interior and exterior design and extends even into the industrial landscape. The aesthetics of the current year’s PANTONE color also affects the overall visual atmosphere of many construction projects, especially in creative architectural projects that embrace the uniqueness of PANTONE’s various hues.

Till Next Year

PANTONE has been releasing its official Color of the Year since 1999, and the tradition continues to this date. With various hues and their corresponding colorful meaning, the public continues to wait in anticipation of what the next Color of the Year will be. In the meantime, Peach Fuzz or PANTONE’s 13-1023 is bound to appear in many creative projects in the year 2024.
