Just like any other valuable things, being a contractor in the Philippines needs a license.
What is PCAB?
The Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) imposes a license for contractors engaged in the construction industry in the Philippines called PCAB License.
Mandated by the law, R.A. 4566 as amended by P.D. No. 1746 provides that no contractor (including sub-contractor and specialty contractor) shall engage in the business of contracting without first having secured a Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) license to conduct business.
This is to ensure that only those qualified and reliable contractors are allowed to undertake construction in the country, meaning, only those who will successfully obtain the PCAB License.
PCAB Updates
Last May 2020, PCAB has made the process of license applications for contractors, clients, and shareholders safer and more accessible amid the pandemic as they launched their online renewal portal via pcabgovph.com.
Recently, PCAB also announced that starting August 30, 2021, the renewal of Joint Venture (JV) Licenses is now available online. This means that all local JV licenses issued online since November 20, 2020 can now be renewed through the online portal. However, for the meantime, this service is currently applicable to applicants who have applied their JV licenses through the online portal.

Another good news from PCAB is that Application for Registration and Classification of Contractor (ARCC) for government infrastructure projects is also now available online. Licensed contractors can now independently apply for new and renewal of ARCC online.
