Construction on the MRT-4 line, popularly known as the “Metro Manila Subway,” was originally scheduled to commence in 2020. However, there have been delays in the timeframe. According to the most recent estimates, real development is planned to begin in the second quarter of 2024 and to be completed by 2030.

The 15.56-kilometer Metro Rail Transit Line 4 (MRT4) will be a completely elevated rail system with 11 stations and two temporary stations. To improve inclusivity, the design incorporates barrier-free access.

The line will pass via Mandaluyong, San Juan, Quezon, Pasig, and the towns of Cainta and Taytay. The aforementioned stations are called EDSA, Meralco, Tiendesitas, Rosario, St. Joseph, Cainta Junction, San Juan, Tikling Junction, Manila East Road, and Taytay.

The MRT4, which is expected to cost P59.3 billion, will feature trains that can travel at speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour and commercial speeds ranging from 25 to 40 kilometers per hour.

The ADB predicts that the MRT4 will shorten travel time from Taytay to Ortigas CBD, which will be from 3 hours using your car into 30 minutes by train.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) expects the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to approve a $1 billion loan to build a new mass transport project.

Timothy John Batan, Undersecretary for Planning and Project Development at DOTr, states that they aim to secure board approval from the ADB by year-end. Also, they need to seek reapproval from the NEDA Board for increased costs and a revised scope.
