A motorist is facing severe penalties, including potential fines of P150,000 and the revocation of their driver’s license, after being caught illegally using the EDSA Busway an astounding 309 times since August 2024.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) flagged the motorist for the repeated violations, which were captured by CCTV footage. MMDA Chairman Don Artes highlighted this case during the launch of the agency’s updated No-Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) website, noting that many of these infractions occurred at night when traffic enforcers were not present.
The MMDA has already filed a complaint with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to initiate proceedings for the suspension and possible revocation of the driver’s license. Under the NCAP, penalties escalate with each offense: a first offense incurs a P5,000 fine, a second offense draws a P10,000 fine and a one-month license suspension, and subsequent violations are fined P20,000 (third) and P30,000 (fourth). The MMDA is also exploring the possibility of obliging NCAP violators to undertake community service.
While the MMDA did not disclose the motorist’s identity or vehicle details, they did confirm the individual resides in San Mateo, Rizal. This case underscores the MMDA’s renewed commitment to strictly enforcing traffic rules on the EDSA Busway.
