Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) Executive Director Atty. Herbert Matienzo has stepped down from his post.
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque confirmed that she accepted Matienzo’s resignation on September 3. She said the executive director cited “personal reasons” in his decision to leave office.
Roque added that an Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Executive Director has already been designated, with the name of the appointee to be announced. Meanwhile, the Construction Industry Association of the Philippines (CIAP) and its implementing boards, PCAB, have been placed under her direct supervision. Roque also created a fact-finding team to investigate possible conflicts of interest, accreditation irregularities, and alleged abuses of authority.
The Status of PCAB
The leadership change comes as the national government calls for a “sweeping revamp” of the Accreditation Board. This directive is part of a broader effort to address irregularities in infrastructure procurement. The board’s recent actions have drawn attention amid ongoing probes into government projects, and on September 1, it approved a resolution to revoke the licenses of nine companies.
